Cooling Refrigerants of the Future. Refrigerants are liquids stored in your air conditioner’s coils that cool and dehumidify indoor air. If we didn’t have refrigerants, we wouldn’t have air conditioning. For years, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, R-22 will no longer be legal to produce because of its negative effects on the environment. Introducing R-410A To reduce environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now compatible with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and contains no chlorine, which means it’s ozone-friendly. You can feel good about using this refrigerant in Bossier City because it’ll help make your system operate efficiently, reliably and quietly, and deliver the same cool comfort in the warmer months. Additional Considerations If your AC or heat pump was made anytime before 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You probably should think about upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is completely unavailable. The old refrigerant will become rare in the next few years, costing you more to run your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at Brooks Heating and Air Conditioning work with R-410A, so you know we have an AC or heat pump that better meets your needs. Be sure to avoid”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
